According to Web Newtype, the Claymore anime will deviate from the manga in the end.

DO NOT CLICK THE CUT IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE SPOILED.

It seems that Raki will witness Priscilla eat someone, and he’ll make his way to Pieta and see Clare Awakening, but be unable to stop her. In addition, Isley and Priscilla will sense the Yoma energy of Teresa from Pieta.

Episode 20 already started to move away from the manga, though it wasn't a horrible change. Thoughts on these spoilers?

If they've got a plan for an alternate canon, I suppose it might be interesting, but I think this changes Raki's entire storyline for the rest of and after the Northern Campaign. I mean, he stays with Isley and Pricilla because he thinks they're nice people - would he stay (willingly, anyway) after discovering Pricilla's true nature? In the manga, his being with Isley fits. His last big motivation was being able to keep with and maybe even protect Clare. He's learning those physical skills with Isley now (his being innocent of Isley and Pricilla's natures is so twisted, but so good!) I get the feeling that when he and Clare meet again in the new arc, Raki's going to try to take on this new role.

If he sees Clare again before the end of the campaign and finds out the truth about Isley and Pricilla, he'd have to find another route, so to speak. I can maybe see him hiding with Clare and Company for the seven years, but to me that scenario lacks a certain...oomph. But I'd have to see this episode and the one after that. I'm already behind on anime episodes :/

Totally OT: This layout looks great! And I love that the text is showing up red as I type :D

ew. ew. EW.

Just ew. I was worried about what they'd do, but to change the story? Ew :(

I'm really disappointed that they're going to change it although I can understand that people who don't read the manga would want some resolution to the plot.

With these new spoilers, I'm guessing that Isley & Priscilla will meet up with Clare and fisticuffs will ensue. I guess what I'm hoping for now is a "rocks fall; everyone dies" scenario. I just don't like the idea of Clare (or any of the other Claymores) being able to beat Priscilla or Isley - much less both of them - at this point in time. I will be very upset if they redeem Priscilla at the end and she regains her humanity through The Love of A Human Child. "You get a kid! You get a kid! Everybody gets a kid!"

If they're changing things anyway... please let Raki die. Please. And let us never speak of him agan.

MAN, that would SUCK! O_____o

How would they even manage to make that work? "O hai, Clare! I'm sorry I killed Teresa. But I'm good now, kthx! :D".

That is just...wanked. With that, I don't think the later part of the manga would make much sense at all. Why can't animes ever be loyal to the manga?

Hope this won't be another anime I boycott. In fact, this is the only one I'm following..>->

I hope they won't cancel the scene with Jean.

Not cool, I'm not entirely caught up with the manga, but still, they were doing a really good job, at least I thought they were.

T_T how hard is it just to stay with the original story? Seriously.

Hopefully, the changes will be minor and won't effect things too much, hopefully.

To be honest, after the North War, there is no real good place to stop. A new arc starts and while the end of the North War was a fantastic lead in to the new direction of the manga, it's not that great of a stopping point for the anime.

I can see why they're choosing to go this route, but that doesn't mean I like it, ;)

O RLY? D:

That's rather... disappointing, to tell you the truth. I thought MadHouse was better than that, really. They decided to cut Nana short (then again, Ai Yazawa would have killed them for doing something like this to her work), so why not do it to Claymore?

Also, this just screws with canon WAY too much. If Raki saw Priscilla eating someone and ran off to find Clare, wouldn't Priscilla or Isley just... oh, I don't know... EAT RAKI?!

*headdesk* Not cool, MadHouse. Not. Cool.

EXACTLY. That's why I'm pretty much 100% convinced that Raki is still with Isley and Priscilla in the new arc. Because he'd be dead otherwise.

Although I am curious as to what explanation Isley's going to give Raki as to why he and Priscilla haven't aged a day in seven years. XD;

Hmm, why am I not surprised at this? -_- They'll just finish the anime with this new ending now. There's not enough episodes to bother with the time leap...wonder if Clare dies at the end O_o Death match between awakened beings seems to be on the cards...

I've always found it funny how Raki gets a bigger role in the anime than the manga. It's one of those things that's kept me in touch with just how different the two are. Hopefully the anime will be just as enjoyable (in a different way to the manga) and the manga will continue on being amazing :D

Strange that after following the story so closely that they would make such drastic changes though...We might not want a second season if they botch the ending up on this one! :P

if they turn this into a slugfest, that isn't cannon with the manga, I want Rifful (sp?) back! I loved that little villain so much.

I love Riful. She's my favourite villain ever.

I wish they'd bring Riful back, too...Such a shame it doesn't seem likely in the animé. ;.; She shared my thoughts on humanity AND my love of dangerous pets...

Looks like we're not gonna see Luciela or Isley's Awakened form, either. Poor kitty-demon only got one screenshot...

yeah >_> I just got done watching the part in the manga (its funny to watch manga youtube search claymore manga ;p) where she is introduced again. its was awesome and a bit funny. I have to agree with her thoughts on humanity too.

not surprised at all... (analysis w/out spoilers)

As far as the anime ending goes, I thought it was pretty obvious that Madhouse would have to deal with the ongoing manga issue. In the manga Book 11, Scenes 60 or 61 appears to me to be the natural conlusion point for the anime. But if you read through those sections, Scene 60 ends on an entirely Clare focus, while Scene 61 jump cuts between Galatea's exposition in the Organization HQ, Isley & Raki, a little bit of the Pieta goings on and Priscilla commenting in 3rd person on the conclusion to the Pieta fight. Animating this represent a number of problems. (I'm just an arm-chair critic here, but just to argue on behalf of Madhouse...;-P)
1. Ending the anime totally focused on Clare leaves a lot of unanswered questions for the anime viewers. Also, while IMO, although this represents the best choice among the four I list, it's not unreasonable to think that Madhouse doesn't find this to be reasonably climactic ending for the series. There would be too many unanswered questions (even by Japanese standards!)
2. The Galatea exposition introduces all new characters. That's a no-no when your trying to bring a story to a conclusion. So that scene is out.
3. Ending the anime on the Raki practice bout with Isley would be a total anti-climax.
4. Ending the anime with Priscilla in melancholy sports commentary mode is also a total anti-climax. The manga never illustrates the final moments of the Pieta battle.

If the goal is to create a properly climactic, 24 episode story, than I don't see how Madhouse can do it without messing with canon.

As for the Hunter x Hunter comparison... I think that's apples and oranges. I'd rather compare Hunter x Hunter with DBZ with HxH being the superior anime implementation.

Re: not surprised at all... (analysis w/out spoilers)

I"d have to disagree on the hunter x hunter bit. The only part that matters is that hunter x hutner ended on a bad spot and continued with ovas, not the story itself.

Claymore could end on 60 and then do the rest on ovas as it came out. ITS a good idea. However, claymore isn't popular enough in japan for that to be a viable option. even so, if tis not that popular, why mess with cannon?

So judging from what everyone is saying, it is safe to say that there won't be a second season of Claymore. Even if there will be one then it'll be at least two years later before it comes out.
